this album is the clear creative female voice Steve Wonder loved and presented to a wanting audience. I miss her clear straight forward softness, passionate and sweet melody in her lyrics. Her songs and voice hit chakras I hardly hear, feel or vibe to in music today.
Syreeta was the Jill Scott or Erica Badu of her time. I searched for this album for years. Syreeta was to me a female Stevie if you don't mind me saying what I feel out loud. Syreeta was not a Patty or Diana but she was a voice which stood out. Silence is not always golden when it comes to a black vocalist like Syreeta Wright. Some say she died in a horrible car accident. This rumor was never confirmed but where ever she is..her voice sings in my memory like an black angel.
Syreeta - She's Leaving Home
Brilliant arrangement by Stevie. McCartney must have been really impressed. You can hear Stevie's excitement as he is using his new synthesizer "toys" in '71 and '72. Reminds me of a lot of his material on "Music of My Mind".
Stevie and Syreeta were in the forefront of experimental R&B in the early 70's.
Syreeta - I Love Every Little Thing About You
What a voice, sang with ease and effortless as the breeze
sang like an angel.
Syreeta I didnt know she passed away in 2004 from cancer.
May you rest in peace. Your beautiful voice still shines and uplifts.
Wright was a noted yet overlooked artist on the Motown label. Initially established as a session backing vocalist for such Motown stars such as Diana Ross and the Supremes and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, she also had gained recognition in the music industry for co-writing several of the label's hit singles including The Spinners' "It's a Shame" and her first husband Stevie Wonder's hits, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" and "If You Really Love Me", and also writing the lyrics to most of Wonder's compositions for his albums, Where I'm Coming From, Music of My Mind, and Talking Book. Wright's first two albums of her own merit, Syreeta and Stevie Wonder Presents: Syreeta, were critically acclaimed releases but didn't gain any commercial success, though the latter album found success with several of its numbers becoming hits in the United Kingdom. In 1975, Wright and Wonder wrote and produced a reggae-flavored love song titled "Harmour Love". Because Wonder was busy working on his own ambitious project, Songs in the Key of Life, Wright decided to work on most of the material of her third album without him.
