Curious album this. Allegedly made by a big-name house producer who didn't want to confuse people by using his normal name, this is an eccentric mixture of House, Leftfield and Techno. The tunes are unconventional, almost glitchy, both in the sounds used, and the structure. The overall effect is taut and well constructed, but skewed , surreal, and off-kilter dance music. One for daring DJ's to drop in the more cutting edge clubs, or to listen to at home for a change. It will withstand and reward repeated listening and the production values are excellent. The tunes are danceable, ... and it will bring out the best in most people's systems. File under curious treats. Overall four stars...but Step Back is a classic five star tune....worth the price of admission alone... worth investigating.
