This 4th album by the "Span" marks the entry of Bob Johnson & Rick Kemp on electric guitar & bass respectively. From here on out the "Span" would move in a decidedly more "Rock" direction from their beginnings in electric folk. Their song selection would shift more in the direction of hard-core "hanging Ballads" rather than the melancholic "lost lover" themes found in their earlier work, even though this element would always remain, being as it's native to the genre. hee hee Most notable is the powerful musical arrangement of the song "King Henry", which presaged the stunning uniqueness of their music, which can be found nowhere else in pop, rock , folk , or world music. This album and their next three constitute and incredible body of work, not only in the selection of songs, instruments, vocal arrangements AND recording techniques, but in the overall projection of the "celtic" spirit and soul. The wide range of styles , from pure folk to very hard rock, to Gregorian-style chant, to lively instrumental jigging showcase the active pursuit of this group of musicians to break new ground and still maintain fond "groundings" in the past and present
