"De do do do, De da da da" is actually a very witty song about the power of the spoken (or written) word. On the surface it sounds as though Sting was in a goofy mood, and consequently wrote a goofy song - this is far from true. He wrote smart lyrics that shed light on the phenomenon of how the "poets, priests, & politicians have words to thank for their positions."
In "Don't Stand so Close To Me" Sting. the lead singer, is not afraid to shout out loud with all the words that he doesn't appreciate women close to him. "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da" is pure poetry and was voted Gay Anthem of The Year in a 1981
