J Dilla 45 sampled track "Yolon", including the funky number "Shout It Out", a melodious PATRICE RUSHEN-ish sound out the "Stepping Stones",

In this album Rushen gives her audience a pleasurable collection of songs ranging from jazz, funk and fusion to R&B. This album was a clear hint to where her career was going to in terms of style, she would later follow a stronger R&B sound with her later follow up albums after signing with Elektra Records label

If you were into the Jazz "Fusion" movement of the 70's it was big. Got a lot of airplay of black college radio stations like Howard University (WHUR) and Morgan State University's station etc. This and two albums before was when she was still into her Jazz instrumental roots. After this album she went commercial and R&B. She can play and compose with the best of them to this day.

Patrice Rushen - Yolon

This is an composition of Patrice and it was just an early indication of the kind of creative arranger she was going to be in the years to follow and that she was one artist that the music industry (particularly in the area of jazz) would only have to take notice but respect
