Olatunji is a trailblazer in world percussion music. My favorites are Akiwowo ( Chant to the Trainman) and Jin Go La Ba ( Drums of Passion). This is excellent traditional African music using various percussion and vocals. Very vibrant. Many tribal sensibilities are found in the rhythms. Baba Olatunji & his Drums of Passion- Akiwowo Baba Olatunji performs song Akiwowo at New Years Eve concert opening for The Grateful Dead in 1986. the heart of Baba and what he had to teach ..that "LOVE Is the Greatest Emotion in the World Babatunde Olatunji - Shango (Chant to the God of Thunder) He was the greatest. He inherited his musical throne from Assadada Defora Sier a Leonian drummer who reigned in NYC during the 40s and 50s. Babatunde played with him for a while but left to form his own group in 1958.
