Gold Panda's new EP 'An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds' is his first full release of original material since October's stunning debut album, 'Lucky Shiner'. A track recorded especially for his DJ Kicks release, 'An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds' is the lead track from said compilation, and is a gorgeous, slow burning amalgam of woozy chimes, flooded bass and syncopated claps, it sounds like a step aside from the tracks on 'Lucky Shiner', perhaps a tad icily detached - as the the track title implies.
Additional tracks include a self-reworking of the song, 'Through Clouds' by Derwin Panda, assisted by Simian Mobile Disco man Jas Shaw, and 'Kalimba_Pedal_Improv_stem', a short and playful track incorporating elements from the lead tune once again.
On the flipside come two reworks from Piccadilly favourites Peaking Lights. We love the husband a wife duo's "936" album, so were very excited to see their name here (which must surely be their first wide-spread remix?).
Their two versions of Gold Panda's lead track are swoonsomely atmospheric re-readings.
The dub version begins with ethereal chimes descending through a clicky, cybernetic and disgruntled groove which could be straight out of Four Tet's sound palette. When the chords kick in we get an emotive and powerful hook which somehow captures the ghostly magic and mystery which their "936" album conveys, but in an entirely different style and genre sounding more like the organic house output currently favoured by Caribou, Floating Points, Jamie XX and the aforementioned Four Tet. On the vocal mix we get Indra's seductive vocals chopped'n'skrewed to oblivion with the celestial mush of the original. Totally unique and mindblowing.

I love the subtle touch to this melody
The melody that begins at 1.51 is very similar to the melody in the second half of Whitesnake's "Still Of The Night", which I like a lot! This track's a banger!
