Known in Toronto as Mr.Soul, few people are aware of the deeply religious roots of the man with the most sought after voice in the region. The man who gives his listeners goose pimples on just about any number he touches, be it Reggae, R&B, Gospel, or C&W. Whatever genre, you name it, and he is capable of touching deep into your emotions. After taking on the challenges and proving himself able and proficient at all levels..


1981's If You Don't Love Me, Leave Me Alone was Banton's first solo r&b album, and was released on his personal Love Light Records label. Produced by Banton and recorded at Comfort Sound Studio (see also: The Webber Sisters and Rupert Bailey and the Swingers), the musical line-up was Lloyd Geddes on drums, Tony Hutton and Iauwata on bass, Dennis Haynes on saxophone, Iauwata, John Sharp and Bernie Pitters on keyboards, Patrick Kitsons on rhythm guitar, and Iauwata and Arthurton Ducreary on lead guitar.

"I'm A Lonely Man" is an upbeat number with reggae overtones, while "If You Don't Love Me, Leave Me Alone" is an epic soul ballad featuring some bluesy soloing on lead guitar. And "The Train" is a sort of mash-up of the classic Philly soul singles "Love Train" by The O'Jays and "People Get Ready" by Curtis Mayfield


In 1982, he released the cover song, "How Could I Let You Get Away" which was previously recorded by the Spinners. It made the #1 slot on the Toronto music chart and received regular rotation on WBLK in Buffalo, New York.
