Back in April 2011 I tuned in to All Things Considered on NPR (you can go to the NPR website and listen or download the show from 04/16/11 titled "Colin Stetson: Horn Of Plenty") and heard an interview and samples of Colin Stetson's new LP "New History Warfare Volume 2: Judges" (it is part 2 in a trilogy).
I was BLOWN AWAY! The instrumentals were amazing in and of themselves, but then hearing about the recording process and how each song was recorded live in one take using up to 24 mikes in Montreal's Hotel2Tango amazed me. Finally I heard what was for me the highlight -one of the few vocal pieces "Lord I Just Can't Keep from Crying Sometimes."
The LP is great though.. if you have a good turn-table, the vinyl will blow your mind! Obviously this music is not for everyone. If Milli Vanilli does it for you, then so be it. But for those a bit more daring and adventurous in your listening abilities, do not pass this offering up. And if you have the equipment to spin some wax, the limited edition vinyl is totally worth it!

Colin Stetson - The Stars In His Head -live
the incomparable Colin Stetson performing "The Stars In His Head" off of New History Warfare Vol.2 at Glasslands in Brooklyn on 4/17/11
Colin Stetson - A Dream Of Water (2011) [unofficial fan video]
reminds me of koyaanisqatsi. beautiful
I also think that somehow Stetson's work sounds "glass-ish", and it's interesting how he got to sound interesting playing sax, that is not exacltly the leading instrument on Glass' works... :-)
