'Street Halo' is the first solo Burial 12" in four years. It's a peach. A-side 'Street Halo' is a yearning 4/4 roller tucked with all the hallmarks of his finest and usefully cut at 45rpm in case you want some slopped and screwed fun. Flipside, we find the slowdown soul-tugger 'NYC' featuring a more prominent vocal in the style of his songs from 'Untrue', but best of all is 'Stolen Dog', hankering after a twoc'ed mutt through a beautiful, Roedelius-like lead refrain, barely-there rhythms and swarming spectral shapes.
This "dubstep" record is not at the usual dubstep 140ish BPM. All the tracks are around 120 bpm and I've been using this plate in house/techno sets.
Some might see this as being not much of a progression from the Untrue album, but when the sounds are this good, who cares? Street Halo has a real groove and retains the crackly, haunting beauty that is his trademark sound. NYC And Stolen Dog are more low key that the A side, but are equally thrilling. I love it.
Street Halo is the 'Burial' sound through and through; deep, melachonic and haunting.
Burial - Street Halo
Burial's appeal is far more than just his tunes. This is a man who hasn't logged into his Myspace in two years. While many are questing for internet fame he is virtually uninvolved in it all. If you haven't already, check out his interviews. His passion for music is infectious and I find them particularly inspiring in this time of forgettable viral fame and faceless networking.
