I was first introduced to Bill Cosby's work through his TV show, "The Cosby Show." Later, I discovered his stand up performances. While shopping in a used record store recently, I picked up this release on vinyl. I love it! His skits about the Bible are hysterical, as is his "Fat Albert" routine. And since I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I found his skit on driving in San Francisco particularly funny. "They make Lombard Street go straight down, and since they're not satisfied with you killing yourself that way, they put all these twists and curves in there!" I could not even breathe. Another thing I like about Bill Cosby is that he can make you laugh without talking about sex, or using foul language. Anyone in need of a good laugh should pick up this record.
This album was released on the Warner Bros. Seven Arts label in 1969. Those who purchased Cosby's six previous(non-compilation) albums won't need this one because this album contains all previously released material. From Cosby's 1963 debut BILL COSBY IS A VERY FUNNY FELLOW RIGHT! are NOAH:RIGHT!,NOAH:AND THE NEIGHBOR and NOAH:ME AND YOU LORD. Instead of applause or lack of applause at the end of the latter track,we hear the sound of lightning and thunder,which I assume was tape-recorded. From 1964's I STARTED OUT AS A CHILD are STREET FOOTBALL and THE WATER BOTTLE. Both tracks are each about a minute long. From 1965's WHY IS THERE AIR? are BABIES(entitled BABY on WITA) and DRIVING IN SAN FRANSISCO. By the way,an edited version of THE LONE RANGER from ISOASC is on this compilation. I'd rather hear the three minute five second version from ISOASC. From REVENGE,one of my all-time favorites are the title track,OLD WEIRD HAROLD and FAT ALBERT. Respectively,the latter two tracks were listed as 9TH STREET BRIDGE and BUCK BUCK on REVENGE. From TO RUSSELL MY BROTHER WHOM I SLEPT WITH is THE APPLE,which unnessecarily reappeared on this album's sequel,MORE OF THE BEST OF BILL COSBY. The Germantown,Pennsylvania native remains one of the world's best-loved comedians today.
