Bob Bennett’s First Things First has got to be about the best thing to come out on Maranatha! in the late 1970s.

It was released about three years after he became a Christian..

Bennett has three things going for him: he’s a great singer, a fine guitarist, and a brilliant songwriter, and all three talents come together beautifully on his debut release.
All songs are very good, but “Carpenter Gone Bad?” and “You’re Welcome Here” are standouts. Released in the U.S. on the Maranatha! label in 1979.

Simply put, this is a beautiful album.
The lyrics have a characteristically clever turn to them. Bennett has a natural gift for lyrics. Very memorable! What's better are the amazingly beguiling melodies.
Bob is a pretty good guitarist too. At times there's a hint of James Taylor's playing, but Bob's got his own musical voice going on here. This is a fabulous first effort.
